About The Responsible Traveller Founded in November 2007, The Responsible Traveller has a mission raise awareness and promote responsible tourism experiences in Canada. Laura McGowan Based in Toronto, founder Laura McGowan is committed to making the tourism industry in Canada more responsible.  With experience travelling across Canada and around the world, Laura understands that the best travel experiences are authentic, engaging and connected to the local natural and cultural heritage. Laura McGowan holds a Master of Science degree in Responsible Tourism Management from the University of Greenwich, UK (International Centre for Responsible Tourism) to which her research focused on the indicators influencing visitor experience in protected natural areas. Other areas of expertise include Tourism for Local Economic Development and Poverty Reduction (Propoor Tourism); Managing Tourism and Conservation in Protected Areas; Managing Cultural Heritage for Tourism; and Responsible Tourism in Destinations. Laura also holds a BA Leisure, Tourism and Society with a focus on natural and cultural heritage and ecotourism from the University of Calgary. With a variety of tourism industry  experience, including frontline and management positions in hospitality, the ski industry, tour planning and tour leading, museum planning and consultancy, Laura has an understanding of all aspects of the tourism industry - including the challenges and opportunities for change within the industry.    The Responsible Traveller is a proud member of...
